I'm concerned about the election on Dec. 19 for the Chesapeake School Board. There are a lot of candidates, and very few are qualified to hold the position.
I think the job should be held by people with experience in our school system and business backgrounds, so they'll understand the budget and have an idea about how to fund programs without hurting the education of our children.
Although there are many candidates, there is only one I have seen that has experience in both categories.
Ted Nance is the only candidate who has served on the Superintendent's Planning Council, was recognized by the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers with a ``Distinguished Service Award'' for his contribution to the ``welfare of children and youth,'' has received the ``Virginia PTA Honorary Lifetime Membership,'' which is the highest recognition you can receive in the PTA, and has professional business experience.
Ted Nance has always been there for the students, teachers and parents of Oscar F. Smith Middle and High schools whenever there was a need or a want.
He brings more than 15 years experience with Chesapeake Public Schools to the job and a devotion to our children that no other candidate has exhibited.
So on Dec. 19, vote for the future of our children. Vote for Ted Nance for Chesapeake School Board.

Phyllis Drive A vision for schools
As a student at Great Bridge High School, I understand how important the upcoming School Board election is for Chesapeake. I know since the School Board directly affects the direction of my education.
I have made sure this year to review all the information about the candidates. There has been one candidate who seems to stand out among the crowd. His name is Michael Woods.
Woods is a community leader in Chesapeake and seems to have a vision for School Board. I was impressed with his support of higher standards of learning for students, which will help us compete against other states and other countries.
This December, I hope everyone will support Michael Woods for Chesapeake School Board.

La Gaviotas Boulevard Actions speak
I am very concerned about the School Board election on Dec. 19. Concerned because there are a lot of candidates. Concerned because few of them are qualified for the job. Concerned because few have shown any commitment to our children through involvement with our school system.
There is one candidate who stands out above the rest in both qualifications and commitment.
Ted Nance has proven over the past 14 years that he is committed to the children of Chesapeake and their future because of his continuous involvement with our schools and his leadership in the PTA. The only candidate for School Board that I know of that has received the PTA's ``Distinguished Service Award'' and an ``Honorary Lifetime Membership`` from the Virginia PTA is Ted Nance.
I know Ted Nance cares about our children. He's been showing it for the past 15 years with his unselfish devotion to our children by being a charter member of the ``Shorty Stallings Scholarship Fund'' that has given tens of thousands of dollars to children to help them through college. He is a quiet and humble man, but I've always been told the ``actions speak louder than words,'' and in Ted Nance's case, his actions prove he cares about and would work to protect our children's education and future.
On Dec. 19, let's vote for experience and leadership. Vote for Ted Nance for Chesapeake School Board.

Woodford Drive Experienced candidate
On Dec. 19, the people of Chesapeake will have the opportunity to participate in what I believe is the most important election of the year. We will be able to send good people to our School Board and bring responsible leadership to our school system.
Of the candidates that are running, there is only one who has more than 15 years of experience, dedication and commitment to Chesapeake Schools. Ted Nance is the only candidate who has served for more than 15 years in leadership positions on the Chesapeake and Virginia PTAs and was awarded a ``Lifetime Membership'' by the Virginia PTA. He brings what no other candidate can to the position: a successful business background, continued involvement in school programs and activities and dedications to making our schools better for our children.
So vote in this important election, and when you do, vote for the candidate with 15 years experience with our school system, a candidate who will continue his devotion to our children and their future. Join us in voting for Ted Nance for the Chesapeake School Board.
