MARY S. GETCHELL

Mary Catherine Smith Getchell, 83, of 4036 River Shore Road, went to be with our Lord on Dec. 7, 1995. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a faithful Christian throughout her lifetime.

Mrs. Getchell, the widow of Wilmer Ellsworth Getchell, was a retired seamstress. She was a native of Norfolk, and daughter of the late Lloyd Moore and Mary Love Smith. Before moving to Portsmouth, she was a member and deaconess of Temple Baptist Church in Norfolk. She was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church where she was a member of Young At Heart and Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her three daughters, Juanita Thacker and her husband, Tommy, Betty Jean Getchell, all of Portsmouth, and Shirley Frasier and her husband, Max, of Sumner, Wash. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kimberly Glass and her husband, Rev. Joseph Glass of Freeman, Va., Bobby Walker and his wife, Jeanette and their children, Joshua and Chad, Susan Cook and her husband, David and their daughter, Ashley, all of Suffolk, Josie O'Rourke and her son, Daniel and Michael Thacker of Portsmouth, David Frasier and his wife, Tawnya and their daughter, Annie, Steven Frasier and his wife, Amy and their children, Joshua, Jessica and Michael Frasier of Sumner, Wash.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by Dr. Ector Hamrick and the Rev. Mark Pullen. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times at the home of Juanita and Tommy Thacker, 3936 Merrifields Blvd., Portsmouth.
