STRONG WINDS, ROUGH SEAS GAFF FISHING ON OUTER BANKS

Strong northeasterly winds and rough seas kept fishing activities at a minimum along the Outer Banks Thursday.

Although anglers on Nags Head Pier caught quite a few striped bass late Wednesday, action was nonexistent Thursday.

On Kitty Hawk and Avalon piers, a handful of stripers were decked Thursday morning.

Little action was reported from Jennette's Pier and Outer Banks Pier.

Heavy seas rendered the surf unfishable from Corolla to Buxton.

Along the beach south of Cape Point, an area protected from the strong winds, a few black drum were taken.

Anglers in the Frisco area managed to land a few small speckled trout.

Charter craft at Oregon Inlet and Hatteras were unable to venture offshore.

The water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier at Duck was 51.5 degrees Thursday. by CNB
