DIRTY BEACH WATER FROM CAROLLA TO BUXTON SLOWS FISHING IN SURF

Fishing was slow along the Outer Banks Friday, with dirty water along the beach from Carolla to Buxton slowing action in the surf.

There were fish enough to attract birds along the northern beaches, but the action was well beyond casting range.

Nags Head Pier reported a striped bass fought and lost during the morning, but that was it for the day.

Fish were scarce around Oregon Inlet and south along the beach. At Cape Point, a few black drum were landed.

Water conditions weren't so bad in the Frisco area, where surfcasters beached some trout near the Frisco Pier.

In the Manns Harbor area, striped bass fishing was only fair during the morning, but improved later in the afternoon for anglers who had to release them. Striper fishing in the Albemarle Sound is limited to Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Charter boats off Oregon Inlet found plenty yellowfin tuna of mixed sizes between the 40560 Loran line and the ``Point.''

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers' Pier at Duck dropped sharply, to 49 degrees. by CNB
