Manteo High School will be the site of the first-ever ``Shootout at the Border'' high school basketball tournament this month.
The round-robin tournament will feature four teams from North Carolina and four teams from Virginia in boys' and girls' formats.
The tournament opens Dec. 20. In girls' play, Great Bridge will face Williamston at 4 p.m. and Manteo will host Cox of Virginia Beach at 5:30. On the boys' side, Clinton will play First Colonial of Virginia Beach at 7 p.m. and Manteo will host Poquoson at 8:30.
On Dec. 21, the Williamston girls will play Cox at 4 p.m. and Manteo will take on Great Bridge at 5:30.
The Clinton boys will play Poquoson at 7 p.m., and Manteo will take on First Colonial at 8:30.
The final evening, Dec. 21, the format will change: North Carolina will battle North Carolina and Virginia will battle Virginia.
At 4 p.m., Cox will play Great Bridge in girls' action.
At 5:30, Poquoson will face First Colonial in a boys' game.
At 7 p.m. the Manteo girls will host Williamston.
The Lady Tigers won the 1A Eastern Regionals last year and lost in the 1A championship game to Murphy.
At 8:30 p.m., Manteo will face Clinton.
Clinton has knocked the Redskins out of the 2A playoffs the last two years. by CNB
