Shame on those government employees who complained to the media about their six-day paid vacation and flooded state unemployment offices with needless paperwork. They knew the shutdown was likely to occur, that it would be temporary, that they would be paid and that all their benefits would remain in effect.
Shame on the president, members of his administration and Democratic congressional leaders for a two-month campaign of blatant lies against the Republican budget plan.
Shame on the unions for sponsoring a $20 million TV ad campaign designed to needlessly scare our senior citizens on proposed changes to Medicare.
The greatest shame belongs to the print and television media for playing up the above stories.
I hope the ``Two Sides of the Debate'' chart on Page 1, Nov. 21, is an indication that at least The Virginian-Pilot is embarrassed. Can we hope that the debate will be reported more honestly in the future?
