NORFOLK ACADEMY PUTS 3 ON FIRST TEAM KIEFNER, BAGNELL ARE ONLY REPEAT SELECTIONS ON FIRST TEAM; CATHOLIC PUTS 4 ON SECOND TEAM

NORFOLK ACADEMY, the perennial field hockey power in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools, led the league in postseason honors.

The Bulldogs, who finished atop the conference with a 6-0 record, had three players named to the first team all-star team as voted upon by league coaches.

Senior midfielder Kate Rueger, sophomore forward Merrick Michaels and junior keeper Liz Enright each earned honors for the Bulldogs.

Michaels was the team's leading scorer with 13 goals and three assists while Rueger chipped in three goals and assisted on four. Enright, who missed the last few games of the season, helped Norfolk Academy post 16 shutouts and notched 79 saves.

Norfolk Collegiate forward Katie Kiefner and Nansemond-Suffolk forward Betsy Bagnell are the only repeat first-teamers.

Kiefner led the conference scoring with 12 goals while Bagnell was second with 11.

Marsha Pascual, a senior defender for the Oaks, joined Kiefner on the first team and was fourth in league scoring, netting nine goals. Kelly Bradley, tied with Pascual as the TCIS' fourth best scorer, and Ginny McGraw earned honors for Cape Henry Collegiate.

Rounding out the first team selections were Hampton Roads Academy's Elizabeth Old and Jaclyn Williams and Walsingham senior Jocelyn Steele.

Catholic led the second-team selections with four. Earning the honors were seniors Chesley Fentress, Lorna Tweed and juniors Jenn Dixon and Samantha Newton.

Rounding out the second-team selections were Nansemond-Suffolk's Heather Rountree, Lanz Smith; Norfolk Academy's Mary Burroughs and Mason White; Hampton Roads Academy's Ashley Meeker and Caroline Daimler; and Walsingham's Amy Fiorenza and Sarah McNew. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
