Emanuel Phillip ``Hunky'' Mullen Sr., of the 1000 block of Rugby St., departed this life Dec. 6, 1995.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James L. Mullen Sr. of Norfolk. Emanuel was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Norfolk. He was a product of the Norfolk Public Schools System, where he excelled in woodworking and carpentry. He later joined the Merchant Marine and sailed throughout the world for several years. He then became a truck driver, driving locally and long distance up until his untimely death. He always loved driving trucks, the bigger the better, where he showed his expertise.
As a young man he married and became the father of five children, Veeta M. Barnes, Emanuel P. Mullen Jr., Carolyn Tinsley, Denise Doughtie, Stephanie Melendez, and Antroneika Young. Survivors also include nine grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Mullen and Vivian Mullen; two brothers, James L. Mullen Sr. and Robert H. Mullen of Chicago; two aunts, Sue Fortune and Vernell Saxton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Graves Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Joseph Lassiter. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be at the residence the day of the service.
