ANNIE L. CHESTNUTT

Mrs. Annie Lee Chestnutt, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, in Britthaven Nursing Home of Edenton.

A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Chestnutt was the wife of the late James L. Chestnutt, a former Postmaster and businessman of Edenton, who died in 1975. She was a member of Edenton Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday School and Woman's Missionary work, having served as WMU president of the Chowan Baptist Association. Mrs. Chestnutt was a former state president of the American Legion Auxiliary and remained active in local, state and national work until failing health. She was most active for many years in Girls' State on the campus of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.

Mrs. Chestnutt is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nancy C. Powell of Portsmouth and Dorothy Lee Downey of Richmond, Va.; a son, James L. Chestnutt Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Adkins Taylor of Dunn, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Edenton Baptist Church by Dr. Kenneth Word. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home in Edenton from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
