HALVERSON, ST. PIERRE LEAD ADMIRALS TO 7-GOAL OUTBURST

The Hampton Roads Admirals enjoyed their biggest goal production game of the season Sunday, rolling to a 7-2 victory over the Huntington Blizzard in front of just 1,505 fans at the Huntington Civic Arena.

The game was a direct contrast to Saturday, when Columbus led the Admirals 3-0 after one period and 5-2 after two and then held off a rally for a 5-4 victory in the Ohio capital.

``Our whole game was better tonight,'' Admirals coach John Brophy said. ``We worked hard. We needed a game like that. We continued to force the play the whole game. We didn't back off.''

The Admirals first line contributed most of the scoring. Left wing Trevor Halverson led the Admirals with two goals and an assist, center David St. Pierre contributed a goal and three assists and right wing Dominic Maltals had a goal and pair of assists.

Halverson's first goal, at 8:09 of the first period, came with the Admirals down a man and gave them a 2-0 lead.

Dominique Ducharme scored just 56 seconds into the second period to cut the Blizzard deficit to 2-1. However, Hampton Roads broke loose for three goals in a span of 1:46 later in the period to take control at 5-1.

Sergei Voronov scored at 6:17, St. Pierre at 7:06 and Jeff Kostuch at 8:03 to complete the charge.

The Admirals, off now until Friday when Roanoke visits Scope, is second in the East Division at 13-3-9 with 35 points. Huntington falls to 4-15-5.

Huntington went 0 for 8 on the power play, including four in the first period.

``Special teams were good,'' Brophy said. ``We got some good chances tonight. Halverson continues to play great. He had two last night and two tonight.''

Brophy was also happy for goalie Todd Hunter, who got his first win. He has given up eight goals in three starts, but his first two decisions were shootout defeats. He stopped 28 shots. ``He's been playing well,'' Brophy said.

Late in the game, the Blizzard's Jerad Bednar and the Admirals' Sean Selmser got into a fight that led to all players on the ice dropping gloves and sticks and pairing off. They both were given game misconducts, which calls for automatic ejections. by CNB
