Chesley Rice Powell, 94, of the 1500 block of Pitchkettle Road, died Dec. 12, 1995, in Hillhaven-Nansemond Nursing Center.
Mr. Powell, a retired farmer, was the widower of Balzora B. Powell. He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and a member of Providence United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Williams Bible Class and honorary member of Kings Fork Ruritan Club.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Doris P. Powell and Rufus E. Powell of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Carol P. Phelps of Windsor and Chesley E. Powell of Norfolk; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Hearn of Richmond, Va., Corey Hearn and Leigh-Ann Phelps, both of Windsor. He was predeceased by his parents, Fannie Hingerty Powell and John Morgan Powell.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Rob Vaughn. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and other times at the home of Doris P. Powell, 1556 Pitchkettle Road.
