COLD WEATHER PUTS A CHILL ON PIER-FISHING CATCHES

Fishing was slow along the northern beaches Tuesday. Some speckled trout were seen by anglers from ocean piers, but the fish refused to take a lure.

However, speckled trout were landed from the surf adjacent to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Most of the fish were taken on 6-inch Twister Tails. A few puppy drum were taken from the same area.

A striped bass was beached at Cape Point, where water temperatures were in the 50- to 52-degree range.

Scattered speckled trout were landed by surfcasters along the beach near the Frisco Pier.

Charter boats returned to the dock early at Pirates Cove Marina in Manteo with limits of yellowfin tuna. The best of the action was near the ``Point.''

King mackerel fishing was slow in the blue water off Hatteras.

In the Manns Harbor area of Croatan Sound the few anglers that trolled near the bridge had good catches of stripers, which had to be released because Albemarle Sound area stripers can be kept only on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 48 degrees. by CNB
