Dare County Parks and Recreation Director Johnny Tillett resigned Tuesday to seek other career opportunities, the county announced. The resignation is effective immediately.
County Manager Terry Wheeler said he accepted Tillett's resignation with regret. Tillett, 33, a graduate of Manteo High School and Wingate College, has worked for the county since 1984.
The chairman of the Board of Commissioners, R.V. ``Bobby'' Owens, said Tillett responded to the recreational needs of county residents in a professional manner.
``Johnny deserves a lot of credit for moving the parks and recreation department in the right direction,'' Owens said. ``I wish Johnny the best of luck in his next endeavor.''
Personnel Director Shawn Murphy will oversee the operation of the parks and recreation department until Tillett's successor is hired, Wheeler said. by CNB
