WILLIAM C. CHAPPELL JR.

William Clinton ``Pete'' Chappell Jr., 79, of the 800 block of Bainbridge Blvd., died Dec. 13, 1995, in his residence.

Mr. Chappell, a retired planner and estimator, worked for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 30 years. He was a native of Norfolk County and a member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, Chesapeake. He was a teacher of Friendship Bible Class for 35 years, past president of Fellowship Senior Citizens Club, and worked with the Boy Scout troop which met in the church for many years. He was also a member of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge (NU)339, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Temple, charter member of Chesapeake Shrine Club, past president of Old South Norfolk Sports Club and member of South Norfolk Oldtimers Club.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Elene Smith Chappell; two sisters, Eunice Watts and Tama C. Evans, both of Chesapeake; three brothers, Randall Chappell of Elizabeth City, N.C., Elmer Chappell and Allen Chappell, both of Chesapeake.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, by the Rev. Willis Dowling. Entombment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and at the residence at all other times.
