Florian P. Harrington
NORFOLK - Florian Pelot Harrington, of the 500 block of Birmingham Ave., quietly slipped away to be with her Lord on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12, 1995, in her home.
She had recently been blessed with the joyous celebration on Dec. 3, of her 90th birthday with her family, friends, and former students. She was born in Savannah, Ga., and was the widow of Harry Moore Harrington. She was an elocution teacher at the Bristow Hardin School, Norfolk Public Schools, and privately in her home in her later years. Mrs. Harrington was a member of Colonial Avenue United Methodist Church and a former member of Ghent United Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Norfolk Story League and the Joie de Vivre. She directed the Old Dominion Guild Players during World War II and also directed the first Crepe Myrtle Festival, which is now known as the Azalea Festival.
She is survived by a daughter, Florian H. Whinery and her husband, Robert; son, Harry O. Harrington and his wife, Kathleen, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Robin H. Crabbs, Robert E. Whinery Jr., Shelby L. Whinery, all of Norfolk, William H. Whinery of Chicago, Ill., and Joni E. Harvey of Luray, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren, James M. Crabbs, Katherine M. Crabbs, both of Norfolk, and Christopher E. Whinery of Chicago.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cox Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. William L. Lumpkin and Dr. James O'Quinn. The family will receive friends at the Cox Funeral Home today from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.
