WINDS, SEAS AND WATER IMPROVE FISHING

Light winds, calm seas and clear water set the stage for improved fishing along the Outer Banks Thursday.

Scattered striped bass and some speckle trout were landed along the beach form Kitty Hawk to Oregon Inlet.

Anglers on Avalon pier caught 15 to 20 stripers during the morning.

Speckle trout and a few striped bass were landed by seafarers from deeper sloughs along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Burton.

Puppy drum and mid-sized speckle were taken from the surf behind the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. The trout were caught on mirrolures and soft plaster artificials. Most of the small drum hit mirrolures.

Anglers surfishing near Frisco Pier landed some striped bass and speckle trout.

Charter craft operating out of Pirates Cove Marina returned early with limits of yellowfin tuna caught near the Point.

King mackerel fishing off Hatteras was slow. Some commercial catches of jumbo blues were reported from the area.

Trout and striper fishing should be good along the coast this weekend provided the weather remains moderate.

The water temperature at the cape of Evergreen Pier in Duck was 49.5 degrees Thursday. by CNB
