Michael Evans apparently will be home for the holidays this year - not a positive development in his line of work.
Evans, the former Booker T. Washington High star trying to make his way in professional basketball, was waived last week by the Omaha Racers of the Continental Basketball Association, and is back in town hoping to catch on with another team.
``We're just looking for somebody to give me more (minutes),'' he said. ``I was doing OK, I was just not getting enough run.''
Evans averaged 5.3 points in four games, but his minutes dropped steadily. He played 19 minutes in his first two games, but logged just 12 and 10 in his next two and did not play in his final game.
A team spokesman said Evans was pushed aside by two veteran guards, Darrell Johnson and Rod Mason, who recently returned to the team.
``Both have been with the team for years, and they are two of our top players,'' Omaha's Andy Curtis said.
Evans, 23, was taken by the Racers in the sixth round of the CBA draft. A former Parade All-American, Evans graduated from Booker T. in 1992, but played just one year in junior college before making himself eligible for the NBA draft last June. He was not taken.
Evans said he is working out and waiting for another opportunity.
``I just want to show people what I can do,'' he said. by CNB
