Mr. Elmer Clifton Ashley, age 71, of 658 Oleander Circle, died Friday, Dec. 15, 1995, at Albemarle Hospital.
He was a native of Chowan County, N.C., and was chief engineer for Mary Jane Bakery. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post (NU)4809 and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the son of the late Pearlie C. and Mary Bunch Ashley and the husband of Katherine Davenport Ashley of the residence.
Besides his wife, Mr. Ashley is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Barbara Ann Stokley and husband, Ike M. Jr., of Elizabeth City, Mrs. Connie Y. Hall and husband, Sonny, of Eure, N.C., Mrs. Lisa A. Adams and husband, Lorne, of Chesapeake, and Mrs. Candance A. Thomas, and husband, Tom, of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Chloe Warren of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Everett Ashley and P.C. Ashley, both of Edenton, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church in Edenton, N.C., with the Rev. Bob Young officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Northside Chapel, 1115 N. Road St., Elizabeth City, N.C., today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs Ike Stokely Jr., 2405 Riddick Road, Elizabeth City.
