Wielding yellow-handled shovels and standing behind a wide red ribbon, Nags Head commissioners held a ground-breaking ceremony for their new town hall Friday on the site adjacent to the current municipal complex.
``We're truly happy today to have reached this step,'' Mayor Renee Cahoon told the crowd of about 60 employees and onlookers who gathered in the parking lot for the 10-minute ceremony. ``We'll be even happier the day we swing open these doors and get into our new building.''
Planned to include 20,000 square feet and cost about $2 million, the new Nags Head Town Hall will be built in a ``traditional Old Nags Head'' style, Cahoon said, and should be done in about a year. Workers from McKenzie Corporation in Virginia Beach plan to begin site work for the construction project next week. by CNB
