Beaufort commercial fisherman Jule D. Wheatly lost his seat on the state's Marine Fisheries Commission this week. But he will continue to have an influence over North Carolina fisheries issues as a new member of the General Assembly's Moratorium Steering Committee, which is studying the overhaul of the entire regulatory process for recreational and commercial fishing.
State Rep. Jean Preston, R-Carteret, named Wheatly as her alternative to sit on the steering committee this week.
