WARMING HELP

EnergyShare applications are being accepted from those who need help paying home heating bills this winter throughout North Carolina Power's service area.

Designated applications agencies are Dare Energy Assistance Program, located in Manteo, and Albemarle Manna, located in Elizabeth City. Payments will begin as soon as the forms are approved.

North Carolina Power's EnergyShare is a community partnership that provides one-time financial assistance to help families facing a crisis heat their homes during winter. The program will pay any winter energy bill, including oil, coal, wood, kerosene, gas or electricity.

Last year, 6,200 households received EnergyShare assistance, a total of more than 18,400 individuals. The program is funded through contributions from customers, businesses, organizations and North Carolina Power employees. Contributors have donated about $387,000 to the 1995-96 program.

To qualify for assistance, a person must live in North Carolina Power's service area, be in danger of losing an important heat source and have exhausted federal or state fuel assistance. An EnergyShare recipient must have a household income no higher than one-half of the local median income level, be unemployed or demonstrate a personal or family crisis.

Persons eligible can receive only one payment of up to $500 during the heating season. This is to ensure the widest possible distribution of EnergyShare assistance. Applications can be submitted through May 24. by CNB
