Using a flashlight, Michael Edwards makes adjustments on the newly

refurbished replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer. Today is the 92nd

anniversary of the first powered flight, at Kill Devil Hills. The

highlight of the ceremony will be the induction of Hampton couple

Francis and Gertrude Rogallo into the First Flight Shrine. As a

result of the federal closure of national parks, ceremony officials

were fearful that the festivities would have to be moved from the

historic hill where the Wright brothers made their first flight. The

North Carolina park was granted a reprieve until 2 p.m. today for

the celebration, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
