When Bosnia was under the thumb of Tito and his successors for over 40 years, there was little violence. You would think that after all those years, with generations passing on, that hatred would diminish. Remember the recent Olympics and the TV tours of Yugoslavia, which were things of beauty.
When the dictators lost control of Yugoslavia, however, the genocide started where it left off many years ago. The hatred had been festering.
With our presence, the violence will be under control, but we are dreamers if we think we can accomplish in one year what did not happen after 40 years. When we leave, they will be well-armed and will take up where they left off, and with a greater vengeance, because of the recent hideous crimes. If they wanted peace, they wouldn't need us.
We do not belong in Bosnia. These people do not respect the lives of their neighbors. How will they react to strangers?
