R. Delany Furlong, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 1995.
He was a former resident of Mathews County and a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he had served on the vestry. He was currently a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach. Mr. Furlong was born in McKeesport, Pa., and had degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. He was an engineer and production supervisor with U.S. Steel Corporation. He entered the teaching profession as associate professor of industrial engineering at North Carolina State University. He also taught intermittently at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, and Christchurch School in Middlesex County. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Masons, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Alpha Pi Mu Honorary Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Leona B. Furlong; daughter, Patricia F. Elliott of Walkerton, Va.; stepdaughter, Eliza C. Cocke of Burke, Va.; son, William K. Furlong of Knoxville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Episcopal Church, Mathews. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, is in charge of arrangements.
