James Walter Elder, 56, of Virginia Beach, a retired first sergeant, died Dec. 15, 1995.
A native of Wilcox County, Ga., he was a resident of Virginia Beach for the past 37 years. He retired from the Army National Guard in 1991 after 13 years active Army service and 12 years Army National Guard Service. Mr. Elder served three tours in Vietnam while on active duty as a chief warrant officer.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Elder of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Cindy L. Mullins of Virginia Beach and Joy Ledford of Tifton, Ga.; a son, Tony Elder of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Sara Dykes of Hazelhurst, Ga., and Mrs. Lois Crews of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, on Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Viewing will be Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
