NORFOLK ACADEMY LEADS PICKS ON TOP SQUAD $10,000 PRIZE OFFERED FOR PERFECT GAME - IN DUCKPINS

NORFOLK ACADEMY, WHICH won the regular season Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools championship with an undefeated record in the league, led all teams with six selections on the 1995 All-TCIS football team, as chosen by the conference coaches.

Conference runner-up Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Greenbrier Christian Academy and Catholic each placed four players on the first team.

The Bulldogs, who finished 6-3 overall, placed running back Russell Carter, tight end Hunter Sims and tackle Jason Archbell on the offensive team. Linebacker Matt Payne, tackle Clarence Nimmo and safety Drew McKnight were selected to the first-team defense.

The second-place Saints (3-7, 3-1) placed junior running back Sidney Hazelwood and senior tackle Bryan Abernathy on the offense, with end Jason Strickland and Ben Johnson earning defensive honors.

Greenbrier Christian was playing in the TCIS for the first season and notched a 2-2 record in league competition. Junior quarterback Tommy Keiper was chosen for the first-team offense despite suffering a serious liver injury late in the season. Senior Chad Dunlow, a 6-3, 215-pound steamroller at the flanker position, also earned offensive honors.

Gators linebackers Heath Gibbs and Joe Curtis, both three-year starters, were selected to the defensive team.

Catholic (2-7, 1-3), which finished fourth in the TCIS, also placed two players on each team. Center Nat Falcone and tight end Eric Washburn were picked for the All-TCIS offense; junior Byron Whitehead and sophomore linebacker Jeremy Davis were the defensive selections.

Last-place Hampton Roads Academy placed Scott McInnis on the offensive team, while Doug Banks and Tommy Martin earned defensive notice.

Honorable mention distinction was given to Catholic's Justin Nixon and Marty White, Greenbrier Christian's Jason Zemaitis and Norfolk Academy's Shawn Tobias. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
