The North Carolina ocean beach seine fishery will be closed to the harvest of striped bass effective today.
Bruce Freeman, director of the Division of Marine Fisheries, announced this action because the fishery has taken its harvest allotment of striped bass for the '95-'96 season. Harvest allotments were divided equally among the three primary commercial fisheries used to traditionally harvest striped bass from the Atlantic Ocean: beach seines, trawls and gill nets. Fishermen who use ocean trawls and ocean gill nets will still be able to harvest striped bass until their allotment has been met.
