CLARENCE G. JAMES

Clarence Griffin ``Ruffy'' James, 74, of the 1100 block of Melvin Drive, died Dec. 20, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.

Mr. James, a native of Easton, Md., retired as national sales promotion manager for Anheuser-Busch. He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Maryland Art Institute. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen L. James; three daughters, Jennifer James of Virginia Beach, Jane Hall of Groton, Conn., Krisy Nelson of Manson, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Holy Communion Lutheran Church by Dr. Dennis D. Buchholz. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Communion Lutheran Church.
