How dare you compare Sgt. Joe Dedrick of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to that politically appointed scofflaw at False Cape State Park who claimed to be a sportsman (``Wild things,'' editorial, Dec. 7).
Sergeant Dedrick is the epitome of what every good law-enforcement officer should strive to be: honest, hard-working, dedicated and fair. Instead of being held up to ridicule, you should be praising him for having the integrity to write a ticket to himself for making a mistake. Or perhaps you have forgotten what it is to make an honest mistake?
I dare say that Sergeant Dedrick will get razzed by his colleagues, but the sportsmen and sportswomen of Virginia appreciate the fact that we have someone like Sergeant Dedrick serving us. He should be held up as a model for others. Shame on you for portraying him otherwise.
