JOHN R. PORTER

John R. Porter, 45, a resident of Woodland Circle, died Friday, Dec. 21, 1995, in Southampton County as the result of a single-vehicle automobile accident.

His parents were the late Ralph Lee and Mary Alice Young Porter. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church, Newsoms Volunteer Fire Dept., was past president of Newsoms Ruritan Club, and was a retired farmer. He graduated from Southampton High School in 1968, received an undergraduate degree in agriculture from VPI in 1972 and a master's degree in agriculture from VPI in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Bowen Porter; a stepson, Curt L. Ledford; a sister, Betsy Porter Brantley and her husband, Dr. Aurelius W. Brantley of Franklin; three nieces, Beth Brantley of Franklin, Stacy Marshall and Michelle Marshall of Reedville; and a nephew, Walter A. Brantley of Franklin.

The funeral will be in Newsoms Baptist Church on Saturday Dec. 23, 1995, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Kenneth Williams. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence, 100 Woodland Circle, Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to Newsoms Baptist Church Building Fund. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is handling arrangements.
