George Lawrence Davis, 47, of the 3100 block of Trumpet Road, died Dec. 21, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Davis, general manager of Virginia Carolina Auto Cool, was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and worked with the college and career group. He was an avid participant of Nascar Racing and member of the pit crew for Tommy Gibbs Late Model Stock Car Racing Team. He coached girls and boys basketball for numerous years. He was a former member of Portsmouth Street Rod Association.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Susan P. Davis; four children and a daughter-in-law, Ronald E. Wells and his wife, Barbara M. Wells, M. Shane Davis, all of Portsmouth, Wendy B. Wells and Chad Davis, both of Chesapeake; a special son, James Ratcliff of Newport News; his father, William V. Davis of Portsmouth; his grandfather, George Privott of Suffolk; and his mother-in-law, Mildred B. Pinkston of Portsmouth.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Jackson Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Albert A. Peverall Jr. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, is handling arrangements.
