WINTER PUTS CHILL ON FISH AND FISHING ALONG COAST

Fishing along the northern beaches was slow again Friday. Chilly winds held fishing efforts to a minimum, and cold water temperatures made fish sluggish and reluctant to bite.

A little activity was reported in the Hatteras area. Scattered speckled trout were landed by anglers fishing in the surf behind the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Fishing along the south beach and around Frisco Pier was slow.

No charters were run offshore from Oregon Inlet or Hatteras Friday.

In the Manns Harbor area the few anglers that fished caught plenty of striped bass. Low water temperatures resulting from recent cold nights have made the fish sluggish. Fishermen trolling very slowly around the bridge have produced the best catches.

Good action should continue in the Manns Harbor area until it snows.

Water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 44 degrees Friday. MEMO: (Editor's Note: This is the last of Mr. Tatem's daily fishing reports
