ELECTRONIC FILING TO COME

Joint electronic filing for federal and state refunds from 1995 individual taxes will be available statewide beginning Jan. 12, Virginia Tax Commissioner Danny M. Payne said Friday.

The expanded offering follows a pilot program used this year.

Payne said about 300,000 Virginia taxpayers filed electronic returns to the IRS last year, and the state was anticipating that many electronic refund returns this year.

In addition to tax preparation services, the electronic returns are available at local commissioner of the revenue offices in Virginia Beach, Newport News and Roanoke County, the Department of Taxation said.
