ELIZABETH HILL JONES

Elizabeth Hill Jones, 74, of the 4400 block of Driver Lane, died Dec. 23, 1995, in Norfolk General Hospital.

Mrs. Jones, a native of Sunbury, N.C., moved to Virginia at an early age. She was the daughter of the late James R. Hill and Sudie Williams Hill. She was a member of Glebe Episcopal Church where she was organist until the last Sunday in November 1995, when she retired after 48 years. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and graduated from Elon College in 1944 with a major in both piano and organ. Following her graduation, she continued her musical studies at the University of Miami, the University of North Carolina, and with noted teachers in Houston, Texas, and in Norfolk. She continued this interest throughout her life and for the past eight years studied organ with Dr. James A. Gallatin at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Norfolk. She practiced there frequently, and the Monday following her retirement at Glebe, played for two hours at Sacred Heart.

She was a member of Constantia Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of the Driver Book Club.

She is survived by her husband, Judge William Wellington Jones; a son, William Wellington Jones Jr.; a daughter, Mary Margaret Jones; a grandson, Francesco Bruno-Bossio, all of Suffolk; a sister, Anna Belle Croonenberghs of Virginia Beach; a niece; two nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Glebe Church, Driver. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at their home. In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to make contributions to either Glebe Episcopal Church or to a charity of their choice.
