Lossie Britt, 88, of the 1700 block of Richmond Ave., died Dec. 21, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Britt was born in Greene County, N.C., and was the widow of Ben L. Britt. She was a longtime member of Centennial Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by two sons, Norman E. and Robert E. Britt.
Survivors include seven daughters, Margarette B. Patton, Thelma B. Dawson, Amaza E. Britt, Evelyn B. Smith, all of Portsmouth, Bernice B. Abram of Silver Springs, Md., Dorothy Cox of Goldsboro, N.C., and Joyce B. Grant of Fort Washington, Md.; two sons, Melvin N. Britt of Boston and Carlton R. Britt of Hillcrest Heights, Md.; two sisters, Margaret Jane Whitfield of Chesapeake and Ruth G. Thompson of Lagrange, N.C.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Theodore R. Dawson of Portsmouth; brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Thelma Britt of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral will be conducted Tuesday at noon by the Rev. R.L. Addison in Centennial Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. Serenity Funeral Home in charge. Viewing will be today from 12 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the church. Family and friends will assemble at 2005 Parker Ave., Portsmouth at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday for the processional to the church.
