Charles Monteith Howard Sr. 80, died Friday, Dec. 22, 1995, at his home, in the 5500 block of Carolanne Terrace in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Howard was born in Hampton and resided in Norfolk and Virginia Beach most of his life. He was a retired owner and operator of the Bel-Aire Motel on Military Highway.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myrtle Beshears Howard; one son, Charles M. Howard Jr. of Broadway, Va.; two daughters, Joanne H. Battaglia of Virginia Beach, Gayle H. Zolbert of West Bloomfield, Mich.; five grandsons, Daniel M. Howard and Patrick M. Howard of Virginia Beach, Gregory Battaglia of Newport News, Douglas Zolbert and Alexander M. Zolbert of West Bloomfield, Mich.; three granddaughters, Denise L. Howard of Canton, Mich., Dr. Kristen Battaglia of Dalgren, Md. and Julie Battaglia of Virginia Beach; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Howard donated his body to Eastern Virginia Medical School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
