Bessie M. Holmes of the first block of Carver Circle, died Dec. 24, 1995, in Autumn Care of Portsmouth.
Mrs. Holmes was born in Wilson, N.C. She was a member of Noble Street Baptist Church and the Missionary Society and was a former nurse of the church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Holmes; two daughters, Dorothy Arrington of Portsmouth and Alice Davis of Norfolk; a brother, Lester Williams of Texas; a nephew, Eddie Williams of Portsmouth; two nieces, Marion Pope of Portsmouth and Idonia Body of Wilmington, N.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Noble Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Northam Sr. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will begin at noon Tuesday in Corprew Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
