ALMA C. PIGGINS

Alma Jean Crum ``A.J.'' Piggins, 49, died Monday, Dec. 25, 1995.

A native of Hampton, she was a beloved fifth-grade teacher at Armstrong Elementary School and had previously taught at Bayside Elementary School in Virginia Beach. She was a graduate of Lynchburg College and was a member of Wythe Presbyterian Church.

A.J. is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Piggins; her parents, Blaine C. and Mercedes S. Crum of Hampton; four brothers, Blaine C. Crum III of Mobile, Ala., Larry E. Crum of Chesapeake, Christopher P. Crum of Brookline, Mass., and David Stewart Crum of Hampton.

The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Wythe Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the A.J. Piggins Book Fund of Armstrong Elementary School, 3401 Matoaka Road, Hampton, 23661, or to the A.J. Piggins Memorial Fund of Wythe Presbyterian Church, Kecoughtan and Robinson Roads, Hampton, 23661. Because A.J. died from ovarian cancer, her friends and family have formed a cancer awareness organization, ``A.J.'s Team.'' Please join us in this fight.
