Walter Hazel Joe, 71, of the 900 block of Liberty St., a retired mechanic, died Dec. 23, 1995, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mr. Joe was born in Southampton County, Va., and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 after 23 years. He was a member of Beulah Land AME Zion Church in Ivor and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Joe; two daughters, Catherine H. Jordan of Newport News and Cheryl D. Artis of Hampton; three sons, Walter Tyrone Joe of Virginia Beach, Winston V. Joe of Hampton and Tony R. Joe of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor, by the Rev. William E. Logan. Burial will be in Beulah Land AME Zion Church Cemetery, Ivor. The family will be at Fisher Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. today. The family will assemble at the residence at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Beulah Land AME Zion Church, Ivor.
