Omer John ``Red'' Donahoe, 77, of the 500 block of Tenbee Lane, died Dec. 26, 1995.
Mr. Donahoe was born in Duluth, Minn., on Jan. 20, 1918, and was raised in Superior, Wis., as the only child of Dr. John M. Donahoe and Carol Catterson Donahoe. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor of science and history. Mr. Donahoe joined the Navy and was trained in Pensacola, Fla., as a carrier deck fighter pilot, serving first in the Atlantic and then the Pacific in World War II. For distinguished services Mr. Donahoe was awarded seven Air Medals, three Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Navy Cross.
After 20 years in the Navy as a pilot, Mr. Donahoe retired as a commander to live in Virginia Beach with his wife and family. He joined the Norfolk Corrections Services as a child protection officer. He returned to college to obtain a masters in psychology from Old Dominion University. Mr. Donahoe continued his career as a public servant as a probation and parole officer and became deputy chief until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Donahoe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne Hilliard Donahoe; his daughter, Elizabeth C. Donahoe of Washington, D.C.; two sons, David M. Donahoe and John H. Donahoe and his wife, Sonja E. Donahoe and their daughter, Camber, all of New York City.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 1995, in Galilee Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
