JOHN BREMBY JR.

John Bremby Jr., 79, of the 2000 block of Charleston Ave., died Dec. 23, 1995, in Brent-Lox Hall Nursing Center, Chesapeake.

Mr. Bremby, a retired machinist helper, worked for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 41 years. He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and was an U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie M. Bremby; two daughters, Ernestine Hunt of Columbus, Ga., and Deloise Newsome of Portsmouth; four stepdaughters, Gertie Crocker, Janet Williams, Barbara McNeil, Katrina Pointer, all of Portsmouth; five stepsons, Milton Elliott of Portsmouth, Harry Elliott of Blackstone, Va., Areelious Elliott Jr. of Oceanside, Calif., Leroy Elliott of Savannah, Ga., and Andrew Elliott of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; three sisters, Magdalene Bremby, Lillie White and Lizzie Austin, all of Portsmouth; a brother, Leo Bremby of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; 51 stepgrandchildren; 37 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two aunts; an uncle; four sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in New Community Church of God in Christ, Portsmouth, by Bishop Ted Thomas. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today until the body is taken to the church at 1 p.m. for the funeral.
