Christmas 1995 provided more than good tidings and good cheer for Victoria Felton.
It also gave the 25-year-old Portsmouth resident a dose of fear.
Felton of 3215 Greenwood Drive was walking near her home Monday afternoon when she was assaulted and nearly abducted by a man who drove up in a car, police reported.
Police said the man got out of his car and ordered Felton to get in. When she refused, police said, the man tried to force Felton into the car, but she broke free and ran along Greenwood Drive.
Police said the man drove after Felton, running across and destroying bushes in the yard of one Greenwood Drive residence. The man also drove into an automobile parked on the street, police said.
Eventually, police said, the motorist ran his car into a ditch while being pursued by a man who came to the aid of Felton. Police did not identify the man who tried to help.
Police said the motorist struck the unidentified man with a stick. When the man followed the motorist to his home nearby, police said, the motorist allegedly ordered his dog to attack. The man reported suffering a dog bite.
Police identified the motorist as Tyrone Cotton of the 3800 block of Elliott Ave. They said Cotton kicked a police officer who was called to the scene.
Cotton was charged with attempted abduction, driving under the influence, assault, assault on police, driving with a suspended license and with being a habitual offender.
