LESLIE H. RAWLS JR.

Leslie Herman Rawls Jr., D.D.S., 81, of 1105 Lake Point Lane, died Dec. 26, 1995.

A native of Franklin, he was the son of the late Leslie H. Rawls Sr. and Erma Austin Rawls. He was educated in the Suffolk Public Schools, Fork Union Military Academy, Randolph-Macon College and the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Suffolk; past chairman of its Board of Deacons; former Sunday school teacher for 25 years; former member of the Virginia Baptist General Board; and past vice-president of the Virginia Baptist General Association. Dr. Rawls was a charter member and past president of the Suffolk Kiwanis Club, past president of Old Dominion Boy Scout Council and recipient of Scouting's Silver Beaver Award. He was a past commander of the Nansemond River Power Squadron and recipient of the Senior Member Award. During World War II, he was a captain in the Dental Corp of the U.S. Army and served in Italy with the 5th Army.

Dr. Rawls practiced dentistry in Virginia for 40 years and was a life member of the Virginia State Dental Association, American Dental Association, and Tidewater Dental Association.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece Jones Rawls; daughter, Linda R. Culliton of Suffolk; son, Leslie H. Rawls III of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Leslie R. Culliton, James Culliton III.

Memorial services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Todd Estes. The family will receive friends following the services at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434.
