CARROLL WRIGHT

Carroll Wright, of Charlottesville, Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1995, at his home.

Born Oct. 25, 1903 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of William Wallace Wright and Sallie Lucille Mattison, he is survived by three sons, Edward Barron Wright of Prince William County, Va., Robert Mattison Wright of Fairfax, Va., and Carroll Wright Jr., of Falls Church, Va.; a brother, William Wilson Wright of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Elizabeth Wright Strother and Sallie Wright Simmons, both of Dadeville, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two godchildren.

A nationally recognized real estate consultant and appraiser, he was Realtor Emeritus and former director of the National Association of Realtors, twice selected to its honorary fraternity Omega Tau Rho. He was past president of the Virginia Association of Realtors, Charlottesville-Albemarle Association of Realtors and Northern Virginia Association of Realtors. A member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and past president of its Washington, D.C., chapter, he was honored by the institute and designated Life Member.

Being one of the original cadre that formed the Third Armored Division, his World War II service took him to Africa and India, Burma and China, in campaigns to open the Burma Road. He was recipient of the Bronze Star, commendation medal and Order of Yun Hui of China, and retired as Colonel of Armor U.S.A.R.

He was past president of the Rotary Club of Arlington, and former Chairman of the County's Planning Commission. He was a former vice-president general of the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution, past president of its Virginia Society and of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter at Charlottesville. President Emeritus of the National Society of Americans of Royal Descent, he was also former governor of the Jamestowne Society, organizing governor of the Virginia Society of Founders and Patriots, and member of the Order of First Families of Massachusetts and Order of the Crown of Charlemagne. He was a 60 year member of Columbia Lodge (NU)285 AF & AM, Arlington, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and charter member of Kena Shrine Temple. He was listed in the 40th edition of Marquis Who's Who in America.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Lee Funeral Home of Manassas, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, Va. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, at Pohick Episcopal Church, 9301 Richmond Highway, Lorton, Va. Interment at Pohick Church Cemetery, Lorton, Va., with military honors.
