An Oceanfront bar faces a 20-day suspension of its liquor license, or a $1,000 fine plus a 10-day suspension, after being cited by state regulators for selling alcohol to underage Liberty University students who later were involved in a fatal car accident.
The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board issued its ruling Dec. 20, after determining that Ocean Eddie's at the 15th Street fishing pier sold alcohol to three Liberty students vacationing in Virginia Beach on July 12, 1993. The students, returning to Lynchburg, slammed their car into a retaining wall near the Waterside Drive exit of Interstate 264 in Norfolk. One passenger, Justin Breakstone, was killed when he was thrown from the car and fell onto Tidewater Drive from the overpass. Driver Kari Fraser and the other passenger, Kari Eustice, suffered minor injuries.
The bar has 10 days to appeal the ruling.
