Regarding ``$1 million OK'd to make deadly Shore Drive safer'' (MetroNews, Dec. 20): I would like to know how spending a million dollars to cut down more than 300 trees on Shore Drive is going to keep people from racing their vehicles and driving while drunk. If anything, with the removal of trees creating a clearer straightaway, there will be even more drivers racing their vehicles than before.
In the meantime, the rest of us who drive sober and don't race our vehicles are going to penalized by having to drive on yet another boring and unattractive concrete stretch of road.
I urge council members to vote against this quick-fix that in the end won't really fix anything. Virginia Beach could find more productive ways to spend a million dollars.
