THERE WILL BE no escaping Dick Clark this weekend as 1995 slips into 1996. Aren't you glad to see the old year go?
For the 24th consecutive year, Clark will welcome the new year on TV, appearing on ABC Sunday night at 11:30 to host ``Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve'' with a little help from Yasmine Bleeth of ``Baywatch'' and Jamie Walters of ``Beverly Hills, 90210.''
On Monday, New Year's Day, the VH-1 cable channel is bringing back the TV show that made Clark a household name with the 20-hour ``VH-1's American Bandstand Marathon'' starting at 7 a.m. That's how the VH-1 folks are calling attention to their new series ``VH-1's Best of American Bandstand,'' which starts Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
It will be seen Monday through Friday at 12:30 and again at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Village People return during the marathon. So does Blondie, the Captain and Tennille, and Abba. Clark will be around for the ``Bandstand'' introductions on VH-1 as he has done since 1956.
Will Dick Clark be on TV, like, forever?
``I've signed with ABC until the year 2000,'' Clark said. ``I like being America's unofficial timekeeper and intend to keep doing it.''
Three . . . two . . . one. Happy new year, everybody!
Television has been turned into one great big New Year's Eve Party this weekend. Clark's on ABC. ILLUSTRATION: TCM kicks off ``Gangsters Inc.'' with an all-night tribute to
