WILLIAM CHAMBLIS

William ``JayByrd'' Chamblis, 61, of the 1200 block of Whitemarsh Road, died Dec. 28, 1995, in Chesapeake.

He was a truck driver and a native of Southampton County. Mr. Chamblis was a member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church of Suffolk. He was also a member of Steward of the Church, Laymen organization and Sunday school.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty V. Chamblis; two daughters, Brenda Chamblis Pitt of Portsmouth, Linda Beamon Perry of Suffolk; three sons, Perry ``Rusty'' Chamblis of Bronx, N.Y., Danny S. Chamblis of Suffolk, Thomas Beamon of Suffolk; brother, Mr. Milton Henry Lassiter of Suffolk; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Lee Chamblis and Mrs. Lula Berry.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Macedonia A.M.E. Church, Suffolk, by the Rev. George M. Johnson. Burial is in Carver Cemetery. Viewing will begin today at 7 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. and the family will assemble at noon. Applewhite Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
