SHOTS ARE FIRED AT POLICE OFFICER ON INTERSTATE

A police officer was shot at early Thursday as he was trying to assist a disabled vehicle on Interstate 264 at Portsmouth Boulevard.

Officer J.T. Lee had stopped to assist a car shortly after midnight when someone traveling westbound in another vehicle fired several shots in Smith's direction.

A pursuit was started by the Portsmouth Police, Chesapeake Police, and Virginia State Police, but was discontinued when the suspect turned off the vehicle's lights.

The vehicle is described as a black 1995 Toyota Supra two-door, bearing Virginia license plates.
