George Carlin, a stand-up comedian and actor, will appear at Willett Hall at 8 p.m. Jan. 12.
Carlin, whose stand-up career began in the '60s, is known for his irreverent satire and vocabulary play.
His most famous piece, ``Seven Words You Can Never Use on Television,'' resulted in a Supreme Court ruling, which upheld an FCC ban on ``offensive'' material during hours when children are in the audience.
Carlin has had numerous ``Tonight Show'' appearances, and in 1993 released two Home Box Office concert shows, ``Doin' It Again'' and ``Jammin' in New York.''
In addition to his comedy career, Carlin has stacked up acting credits with a stint on ``Shining Time Station,'' a critically acclaimed children's show airing on PBS in which he plays Mr. Conductor. Also, he starred in his own show, ``The George Carlin Show,'' which premiered on FOX TV in January of 1994 but was canceled a year later.
His movie credits include a part in the Doris Day film ``With Six You Get Egg-Roll,'' ``Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure'' and the sequel ``Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey,'' as well as a role in ``The Prince of Tides.''
Dennis Blair, a screenwriter, songwriter and comic actor, will open for Carlin. Blair, a protege of Rodney Dangerfield, co-wrote Dangerfield's hit movie ``Easy Money.''
Tickets are $20. They are available at any Ticketmaster location, including the Willett Hall Box Office, or they may be charged by phone, 671-8100. ILLUSTRATION: Carlin
